UNESCO Asia-Pacific Education Institute Establishes 'Global Citizenship Education Cooperation Center' in Malaya
Malaysia University of Science and World Citizenship Education Cooperation Strengthening MOU Signed
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The UNESCO Asia-Pacific International Understanding Education Institute announced on the 1st that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) to strengthen cooperation in global citizenship education.
This MOU was promoted as part of the Global Citizenship Education Cooperation Center establishment project, implemented by the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Education Institute starting this year, aiming to enhance the global citizenship education capabilities of teacher education institutions in New Southern countries.
After signing the MOU, both institutions plan to expand cooperation over the next five years in various activities for operating the Global Citizenship Education Cooperation Center, including teacher training, material development, policy research, personnel exchange, and information sharing. In particular, as a pilot project this year, they will conduct a preparedness survey on global citizenship education for prospective and current teachers in Malaysia.
Located in Penang, Malaysia, USM, established in 1969, is one of Malaysia's leading prestigious universities and has actively participated in various global citizenship education programs of UNESCO Asia-Pacific Education Institute.

The Asia-Pacific Education Institute plans to additionally establish Global Citizenship Education Cooperation Centers within teacher education institutions in New Southern countries such as the Philippines, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, and Vietnam in the future.
