[2021 Public Institution Award] Korea Water Resources Corporation Reduces Greenhouse Gases and Shares Profits with Citizens through Floating Solar Power
Minister of Environment Award
[Asia Economy Reporter Joo Sang-don] Korea Water Resources Corporation was recognized for its contribution to reducing greenhouse gases while simultaneously creating fixed income for residents through an innovative floating solar power development model that shares profits with the public, receiving the Minister of Environment Award at the ‘2021 Asia Economy ESG Public Institution Awards’.
Last year, K-water launched the ‘Resident Income Creation Floating Solar Power Project’ for the first time. Through this, it has achieved a reduction of 26 million tons of greenhouse gases annually. K-water is securing both safety and jobs through digital innovation across the entire water management process. It has strengthened dam safety by introducing the ‘Smart Dam Safety Management Platform’ based on AI and big data technologies and establishing the ‘National Dam Safety Management Center.’
In addition, responding to COVID-19, it discovered digital and non-face-to-face jobs, creating a total of 13,196 jobs last year. K-water is also actively engaged in social contribution and win-win cooperation. The ‘Seungju Eco Market,’ a self-sustaining job model responsible for employment and profits of dam area residents, generates jobs for 7 young and middle-aged people and 18 silver generation members through agricultural production and operation of the eco market and cafe, producing annual sales of 60 million KRW.
