[2021 Public Institution Awards] KEPCO KDN Actively Supports SMEs and Mid-sized Companies Conducting Energy R&D
Asia Economy President's Award
[Asia Economy Reporter Joo Sang-don] The Korea Energy Technology Evaluation Institute (KETEP) received the Asia Economy President's Award at the '2021 Asia Economy ESG Public Institution Awards' in recognition of its active support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and mid-sized companies conducting energy research and development (R&D), as well as its contributions to the government's Green New Deal policy formulation.
KETEP carries out support for R&D by researchers from industry, academia, and research institutes through national energy policy establishment, planning, evaluation, and management. It also supports the commercialization of developed technologies, workforce training, and international cooperation. In particular, beyond simple technology development and infrastructure establishment, it is actively and proactively fostering industry through technological innovation.
KETEP eased the private sector burden rates that energy R&D performing companies must bear from 33% to 20% for SMEs and from 50% to 35% for mid-sized companies. It also extended technology fee payments by up to two years, supporting 926 SMEs and mid-sized companies. Furthermore, it made significant contributions to the government's Korean New Deal policy formulation. By proposing the Green New Deal, six out of eight major projects were reflected, including green remodeling, smart green cities, replacement of aging water and sewage infrastructure, and the establishment of intelligent smart grids.
