Daejeon City to Conduct Nationwide 'Pet Registration' Inspection Next Month
[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Daejeon City announced on the 30th that it will conduct a comprehensive inspection from the 1st to the 31st of next month targeting owners who have not registered their companion dogs and those who have not reported changes in information.
The inspection will be carried out by using RFID readers to check whether animals are registered in parks, playgrounds, and residential areas where companion animals are frequently walked.
The target animals are puppies aged 2 months or older, and in cases where there are reasons for non-registration such as being under 2 months old, the owner must separately prove the reason.
Additionally, during the comprehensive inspection, the city plans to check whether identification tags are attached, leashes are worn, and waste bags are carried when going out.
If a puppy aged 2 months or older is not registered as a companion animal at home, a fine of up to 1 million KRW will be imposed according to the Animal Protection Act. Also, if changes such as ownership transfer, animal loss, or death of the registered animal are not reported, a fine of up to 500,000 KRW will be imposed.
Currently, the total number of registered companion animals in Daejeon is 86,042. Previously, the city conducted a ‘Voluntary Animal Registration Reporting Period’ from July 19 to September 30, during which 2,930 animals were registered. Additionally, 134 cats, which are not subject to registration, were also registered.
