Lee Nak-yeon "Daejang-dong Gate, Corruption Cartel Being Exposed"
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Former Democratic Party leader and presidential candidate Lee Nak-yeon said on the 29th, "The Daejang-dong Gate is revealing a massive cartel of corruption that the entrenched powers in South Korea have been hiding."
Lee held a press conference at the Democratic Party Incheon branch in Namdong-gu, Incheon, where he announced his Incheon pledges.
Lee emphasized, "Punishing all those responsible for corruption and their accomplices, and confiscating unjust gains, is the path to rooting principles, common sense, justice, and fairness as the order of South Korea." He also reiterated his call for the establishment of a joint special investigation headquarters, which he had previously proposed.
Lee criticized, "Former Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun ordered the establishment of a government joint special investigation headquarters during the LH scandal. The Daejang-dong Gate is a serious crime that requires a stronger investigation than ever before. As revealed in the case of National Assembly member Kwak Sang-do, there is a strong possibility of power-type corruption."
He then requested Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum to establish a joint special investigation headquarters centered on the National Investigation Headquarters, involving the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials, prosecution, National Tax Service, Financial Supervisory Service, and Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. Lee raised his voice, saying, "Only a drastic investigation encompassing all national investigative agencies can respond to the people's anger and despair. What the people want is an investigation without sanctuary and the complete truth."
Lee stated, "If I become president, I will embark on a thorough purge of corruption and institutional reform. While continuing a thorough investigation into the Daejang-dong Gate, I will abolish the development monopoly model centered on construction forces to prevent such incidents from recurring, and reform it into a citizen-centered profit-sharing model." He added, "We will recover up to 50% of development profits from private land and completely prohibit private participation in public land development." He also promised, "We will establish a Real Estate Supervisory Agency equipped with systematic speculation prevention and integrated investigative functions to strictly oversee all processes, including permits for large-scale real estate development projects."
Lee highlighted the need for change in the Democratic Party primary, saying, "For the re-creation of the administration, the Democratic Party primary must proceed more impressively and dynamically." He appealed for support, saying, "You must judge whether you can endure the five months until the general election with anxiety and worry on your mind. Please make a decision to send Lee Nak-yeon, a flawless, reassuring, expansive candidate with a future vision, to the runoff."
