[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jonghwa] The exhibition, international conference, and event industries have urged, "The government and the National Assembly must immediately implement the With-Corona policy."
Seven organizations related to exhibitions, international conferences, and events?including the Korea MICE Association, Korea PCO Association, Korea Exhibition Organizers Association, Korea Exhibition Design & Installation Association, Korea Exhibition Services Association, Korea Exhibition Event Industry Cooperative, and Korea Event Industry Cooperative?announced on the 27th that they held a joint press statement in front of the National Assembly on the 24th, calling for a major shift in government policy.
These organizations claimed that since the outbreak of COVID-19 in February last year, over the past 1 year and 9 months, the exhibition services sector has seen a sales decline of about 70%, exhibition organizers by 55%, and event including other business operations by over 40%, leading to a surge in business closures and a significant reduction in employment.
In their statement, they said, "This is the golden time for the survival of our event industry, and if the government does not implement the With-Corona policy as soon as possible, it will take years to rebuild our collapsed industry," adding, "Implementing a vaccine passport system for overseas participants' entry into Korea and normalizing exhibition and event activities by government and public institutions as soon as possible are essential to preserve the industry's ecosystem."
