Xi Jinping: "No Tolerance for Preaching or Interference in Internal Affairs" Targeting the US
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] As the United States intensifies pressure on China, Chinese President Xi Jinping raised his voice on the 17th, stating that he cannot tolerate preaching or interference in internal affairs by other countries.
President Xi made these remarks during a virtual attendance at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit held that day. The SCO, led by China and Russia, held the summit over two days starting from the previous day in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan.
He said, "Preaching to other countries as if ordering them around is absolutely unacceptable," and added, "We firmly support each country exploring development methods and governance models suited to their own realities." This appears to be aimed at the United States, which is strengthening its alliances and applying comprehensive pressure on China amid the intensifying US-China hegemony struggle.
He continued, "External forces must never interfere in internal affairs under any pretext," emphasizing, "The future of development and progress must be held in one's own hands."
Quoting the saying, "Temporary strength depends on power, but the millennium-long outcome depends on reason," he stated, "In resolving international issues, one should not start from a so-called 'superior position' or push through with hegemony, tyranny, or bullying."
President Xi raised his voice, saying, "True multilateralism must be practiced, and we oppose acts that destroy the international order or cause confrontation and division under the banner of so-called 'rules.'"
