France Notifies Suspension of Over 3,000 Unvaccinated Healthcare Workers Against COVID-19
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] In France, more than 3,000 healthcare workers who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19 have been notified of suspension from their duties.
These are people who have never received a COVID-19 vaccine since French President Emmanuel Macron announced the mandatory vaccination policy for the healthcare sector in July.
On the morning of the 16th (local time), Olivier V?ran, Minister of Health, appeared on RTL Radio to share the results of the first day of enforcing mandatory COVID-19 vaccination for certain occupations frequently in contact with vulnerable groups.
Starting yesterday, 2.7 million people including hospital and nursing home staff, caregivers, firefighters, and ambulance drivers in France must be vaccinated against COVID-19 to continue working.
Minister V?ran explained, "Most of those who received suspension notices are support staff, and very few are medical personnel," adding, "The number of people who have quit because of this is at the level of several dozen."
According to France Info Radio, 95% of staff at hospitals in Paris and Lyon have been vaccinated, 93% in Marseille, and 85% in Bordeaux.
As of the 13th of this month, 83% of the entire adult population in France has completed two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
