Gwangju Seo-gu Conducts 'Sangmu District Special Maintenance' for Chuseok
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Dae-seok) announced on the 16th that it will carry out special maintenance of the Sangmu district to provide visitors to Gwangju with a pleasant and clean urban environment during the Chuseok holiday.
The Sangmu district is a representative downtown area of Gwangju, where street environment beautification workers are usually concentrated for special management. However, due to the dense concentration of offices, shops, and entertainment bars, illegal dumping of household waste is widespread, causing inconvenience to nearby residents.
To resolve these inconveniences and create a clean image both internally and externally, Seo-gu has designated the period until the 24th as a special maintenance period. Since the 13th, all 54 participants of the Hope Work Project cleaning team have been deployed to the Sangmu district to conduct intensive sanitation activities.
During this period, the Sangmu district will be divided into residential areas, entertainment-dense areas, and one-room apartment dense areas, with cleaning personnel dispersed and deployed to focus on collecting cigarette butts, disposable plastic cups, flyers, and other litter, thereby improving the streetscape along the roads.
Additionally, 10 more participants in the recycling quality improvement support project will be deployed to directly visit business facilities to promote proper household waste disposal methods and compliance with disposal times.
After the holiday, Seo-gu plans to establish a constant household waste collection system, assign dedicated cleaning personnel, promote a campaign to clean in front of buildings and shops within 10 minutes daily, and install CCTV and projectors to maintain a clean Sangmu district 365 days a year.
A Seo-gu official said, “As many visitors are expected to visit the Sangmu district in the future, we planned special cleaning to provide a clean resting environment,” and added, “We ask citizens and shop owners to work together to create a clean Sangmu district.”
