[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Sim Kyung-taek] Jeollanam-do held the 22nd Social Welfare Day commemorative event on the 14th at The Ocean Hotel in Yeosu under the theme of "Recovery of Daily Life and Realization of Inclusive Welfare."
At the event site, 49 people attended, including Jeonnam Governor Kim Young-rok, Jeonnam Provincial Council Chairman Kim Han-jong, Jeonnam Social Welfare Council Chairman Noh Jin-young, Yeosu Deputy Mayor Park Hyun-sik, social welfare facility workers, and social welfare public officials, due to COVID-19 social distancing measures.
However, the entire event was broadcast live on YouTube, allowing social welfare workers who silently remain dedicated despite the difficult COVID-19 situation and the commemorative ceremony attendees to participate together.
The event proceeded in the order of watching a Social Welfare Day video and a presidential congratulatory video, reading the Social Welfare Business Ethics Declaration, awarding meritorious persons, introducing supportive messages sent by social welfare workers, and watching a "Thank You" video from a person living a new life with the help of social welfare workers.
Governor Kim Young-rok said, "Thanks to the active cooperation of social welfare facility workers in quarantine, we are overcoming the COVID-19 crisis well," and added, "We will carefully examine the difficulties of residents, discover customized welfare services, and establish a more thorough welfare system to ensure there are no blind spots in welfare."
September 7, the promulgation date of the "National Basic Livelihood Security Act" in 1999, was designated as "Social Welfare Day," and the week starting from that day is set as Social Welfare Week, with commemorative ceremonies held annually.
