Gwangju City Conducts Safety Inspections in Preparation for Typhoon 'Chantu' Until the 17th
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju Metropolitan City Comprehensive Construction Headquarters announced on the 15th that it will conduct safety inspections in preparation for the typhoon until the 17th.
This measure is in response to the expected impact of Typhoon No. 14 "Chantu," currently moving northward, on Gwangju City.
The inspections will focus on about 20 construction sites including roads and rivers, as well as disaster-vulnerable areas such as underpasses, to prevent wind and water damage caused by heavy rain and strong winds.
They will concentrate on preventing soil runoff from cut slopes weakened by ground softening due to the typhoon and heavy rain, preventing facility overturning caused by strong winds, checking the fastening condition of safety railings, securing emergency contact networks, and managing flood control and facility safety.
Additionally, since the construction projects promoted by the Comprehensive Construction Headquarters are large-scale works conducted within the city, there are concerns about damage from flying safety facilities at construction sites due to strong winds accompanying the typhoon, which could cause injuries to passersby, damage to buildings, and power and communication line disconnections. Therefore, thorough preparations will also be made for this.
Lee Jeongseok, head of the Comprehensive Construction Headquarters, said, “We will prepare in advance for the typhoon and heavy rain, and once weather warnings are issued, we will strictly monitor the typhoon situation and control access to construction sites to minimize damage to residents.”
