Gochang-gun Surpasses 80% COVID-19 Vaccination Rate Among Entire Population
[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] As of the 14th, 43,674 people in Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk, have completed the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, surpassing 80.1% of the total population (54,529 people).
According to the county on the 15th, vaccination coverage means that 8 out of 10 residents have received at least one dose, which is significantly higher than the national average first-dose vaccination rate of 67.3% and Jeonbuk’s 70.6% as of midnight the previous day, based on the total population.
The number of Gochang residents who have completed the second dose also exceeded 31,189, surpassing 57%, meaning more than half have completed vaccination.
Considering the difficulties elderly residents face in rural areas with app or internet reservations, the county provided transportation support and assigned personnel to accompany seniors aged 75 and older from 14 towns and townships from reservation to vaccination center to ensure safe vaccination until the second dose was completed.
In particular, a call center was established within the public health center and staff were deployed to assist with reservations, leading to a faster vaccination rate through advance booking.
Unvaccinated individuals can also receive quick vaccinations by utilizing leftover vaccines at vaccination centers and designated medical institutions, and can apply through designated medical institutions or inquire via the call center for guidance.
A public health center official stated, “As confirmed cases are increasing among younger age groups, we urge young people aged 18 to 49 to actively participate in vaccination.”
The county is encouraging vaccination by issuing temporary numbers and supporting advance reservations for 2,500 unregistered foreigners at the public health center, with over 50% having completed the first dose.
County Governor Yu Gi-sang said, “To overcome COVID-19, the answer lies in each resident’s thorough compliance with quarantine rules and maximizing vaccination rates,” adding, “We ask those who missed their vaccination timing, including those who initially refused or remain unvaccinated, to actively participate in vaccination.”
