This Chuseok Also a Contactless Holiday... Cake Mobile Gift Giving Popular
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] This Chuseok holiday, non-face-to-face celebrations continue, making mobile cake gifting popular as a holiday gift.
According to Shinsegae Food on the 15th, analyzing the sales of the online bakery brand 'Becia Enouveau' mobile cake gifts during the two weeks leading up to the Chuseok holiday (September 1?14) showed a 72% increase compared to the same period last year. In particular, sales of mini cakes, which are ideal for one- to two-person households, increased by 213%.
Shinsegae Food attributed this to the rise in consumers sending cakes non-face-to-face via mobile messengers instead of visiting hometowns or gatherings to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Additionally, 'Becia Enouveau' mobile cake gifting allows easy sending by just knowing the recipient's phone number, and the recipient can enter their address to receive fresh cakes conveniently by delivery on their desired date, eliminating the drawbacks of traditional gifticons that require visiting stores. Furthermore, the spread of the home cafe trend, where cakes are enjoyed at home with coffee or tea as desserts, was also cited as one of the reasons for the sales increase.
To continue the growth of mobile cake gifting, Shinsegae Food newly introduced two types of Becia Enouveau cakes?cheese slice cake and carrot slice cake?that one- to two-person households can enjoy as desserts without burden, expanding the mobile cake gift lineup to 10 types.
