[Akyeong Poll] 'Resignation Last Stand' Lee Nak-yeon Closely Chases Lee Jae-myung by 5.7%P... Jeong Sye-gyun's Vote Direction Key
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] The approval rating of former Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yeon, who made a bold move by resigning from his parliamentary seat, stands at 23.9%, showing a close race within the margin of error (5.7 percentage points) against Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung, who has 29.6%. Former Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun was found to have a 6.0% approval rating in a poll conducted from the 11th to 12th, just before his sudden resignation on the 13th.
According to the poll results on the 'Democratic Party presidential candidate suitability,' Governor Lee Jae-myung leads with 29.6%, followed by former leader Lee Nak-yeon at 23.9%, former Minister of Justice Choo Mi-ae at 6.6%, former Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun at 6.0%, Representative Park Yong-jin at 4.9%, and Representative Kim Du-kwan at 3.1%. Other figures accounted for 3.1%, while 'none' and 'don't know' were recorded at 20.3% and 4.0%, respectively.
Former leader Lee Nak-yeon, ahead of the Honam primary, employed a 'do-or-die' strategy including resigning from his parliamentary seat, resulting in a 1.4 percentage point increase compared to the previous poll (August 21?22), whereas Governor Lee Jae-myung dropped by 0.5 percentage points. Consequently, the gap between the two candidates' approval ratings narrowed from 7.6 to 5.7 percentage points. In a poll limited to Democratic Party supporters, Governor Lee led with 48.1%, with former leader Lee at 33.2%, a gap of 14.9 percentage points. However, by region, although the sample size was small (102 respondents), the approval ratings in Gwangju and Jeolla showed a narrow gap between Governor Lee (36.4%) and former leader Lee (36.3%).
Former Minister of Justice Choo Mi-ae, who gained momentum amid allegations of former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl's 'prosecution report scandal,' recorded a 7.7% approval rating among Democratic Party supporters. Notably, among supporters of the reform-oriented Open Democratic Party, her approval rating was 16.3%, higher than former leader Lee's 12.6%. Choo Mi-ae rose to third place through the Daegu-Gyeongbuk primary and the first Super Week (cumulative vote share 11.35%).
