On the morning of the 13th, Superintendent Jang Seok-woong held a non-face-to-face policy briefing in the large conference room on the 2nd floor of the office building, which was live-streamed through the YouTube channel (Jeonnam Education TV), and announced the ‘Jeonnam Office of Education Educational Recovery Promotion Plan.’
The Office of Education established this educational recovery promotion plan based on the judgment that comprehensive and active support is urgently needed due to learning loss, academic decline, and academic gaps among students caused by COVID-19, as well as deficits in psychological, emotional, and social aspects.
According to this plan, the Office of Education will achieve practical educational recovery and cultivate learning capabilities through customized supplementary curriculum programs reflecting the individual levels and wishes of students experiencing learning loss. To this end, a budget of 8.8 billion KRW has been allocated for the second half of this year alone.
In elementary schools, the ‘Haksub Doumdatgi’ program, which provides customized guidance according to each student's subject, will be operated across 980 classes in all grades.
In middle schools, the ‘Haksubryeok Kium 3UP’ program, which provides individual learning support based on performance evaluation analysis, will be operated in all 248 schools. In high schools, the ‘Hakryeok Level-up’ program, which offers basic academic improvement and elective subject supplementation, will be operated for 1st and 2nd-year students in general high schools.
These supplementary curriculum programs will be operated after school during the semester and also during vacations, with a budget of 6.1 billion KRW allocated for the second half of this year.
Additionally, a university student mentoring system utilizing students from teacher training colleges will support small-group student learning supplementation, counseling, and feedback. An AI tutor will be operated to strengthen 1:1 learning consulting and learning support linked with families.
To support students' physical and mental health recovery, psychological support programs and visiting medical services will be provided. For student suicide prevention, ‘Gatekeeper’ experts, or life keepers, will be trained to provide psychological support to students in crisis. In particular, 1 million KRW each will be provided for individual treatment and family counseling for students in crisis, and 1.5 million KRW will be supported for classes with many crisis students, offering concrete and practical assistance.
Customized educational recovery support measures have also been prepared for young children, vocational high schools, and vulnerable groups. Programs for early childhood development support and language development recovery will be operated to ensure proper growth of young children. Additionally, 500,000 KRW will be provided to 3rd-year vocational high school students for certification acquisition costs, and a practical support mentoring system will be operated by utilizing vocational high school graduates as assistant instructors. Treatment support and environmental improvements for students with disabilities in special schools will also be actively promoted.
