[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-su] Government-funded research institutes in the field of science and technology will conduct their third joint recruitment this year.
The National Science and Technology Council (NST) announced on the 13th that it will conduct the third joint recruitment of government-funded research institutes (GFRIs) in the science and technology sector in 2021. Since last year, the GFRIs have been conducting joint recruitment to expand practical employment opportunities for job seekers and reduce administrative burdens. This year marks the third time.
NST selects candidates through an NCS-based integrated written exam, and the GFRIs conduct additional procedures such as interviews to select the final successful candidates. Fourteen GFRIs are participating in this third joint recruitment, including the Korea Institute of Science and Technology, Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute, Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology, Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information, Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, Agency for Defense Development, Korea Railroad Research Institute, Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science, Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources, Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials, Korea Aerospace Research Institute, Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology, Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, and Korea Institute of Materials Science.
Recruitment at the GFRIs is very popular. In the first joint recruitment conducted in March, 7,175 applicants applied for 245 positions, recording a competition rate of about 133 to 1 for administrative positions. In the second recruitment held in June, 4,288 applicants applied for 125 positions, recording a competition rate of about 187 to 1 for administrative positions.
