50s Driver Assaults Car Ahead Obeying Speed Limit Saying "Go Faster"... Fined 500,000 Won
[Asia Economy Reporter Seoyoung Kwon] A man in his 50s who honked at the car in front to go faster and assaulted the driver was sentenced to a fine.
Today (the 11th), the Chuncheon District Court Criminal Division 2 (Chief Judge Wondu Jin) announced that it sentenced Mr. A (55), who was charged with assault, to a fine of 500,000 won, the same as in the first trial. Earlier, Mr. A was brought to trial on charges of assault after parking his car on the shoulder and grabbing the collar of Mr. B (26), who was driving slowly on a road in Wonju City around 7 a.m. on August 25 last year.
At the first trial, Mr. A claimed that "I told the victim to go, so I just pushed him when he did not go and came closer," arguing that there was no intent to assault. However, the first trial court found Mr. A guilty, and he appealed the verdict. In the second trial, he also argued that "the victim provoked first by thrusting his head forward," claiming his actions were self-defense or a justifiable act.

The court rejected Mr. A's claims, noting that Mr. A cursed at Mr. B, who asked "What is going on?" by saying "Go faster," and that there was no evidence that Mr. B used violence or threatened first. The court further stated, "There are no irrational or contradictory parts in the victim's testimony," and "It cannot be considered self-defense or a justifiable act, nor can the original sentence be seen as excessively harsh or unfair," explaining the reasons for the sentencing.
