International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations: "Vaccine production at 1.5 billion doses per month... Wealthy countries do not need to stockpile"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] The International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations (IFPMA) emphasized that pharmaceutical companies are mass-producing COVID-19 vaccines, so wealthy countries do not need to stockpile them.
Thomas Cueni, Secretary-General of IFPMA, stated on the 7th (local time) that 7.5 billion doses of vaccines have been produced so far, and 1.5 billion doses are being produced every month, according to a report by the AP News Agency.
He stressed that at this pace, the Group of Seven (G7) countries can sufficiently vaccinate their citizens, including booster shots, and donate 1.2 billion doses to other countries. This would also help close the vaccination gap between wealthy countries and developing nations.

The disparity in vaccination rates between countries is one of the biggest issues the world faces this year. With limited supply, the United States and Europe have been aggressively stockpiling vaccines, significantly reducing the amount available to developing countries. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 52% of the U.S. population and 57% of the European Union have completed vaccination, whereas only about 3% of the population in sub-Saharan Africa have been fully vaccinated.
