On the 8th, when the number of new domestic COVID-19 cases reached 2,050, the temporary screening clinic in front of Seoul City Hall was crowded with citizens seeking testing. The number of confirmed cases in the Seoul metropolitan area, including Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon, reached a record high of 1,476, accounting for 73% of the total, marking the highest figure since the 31st of last month. The daily number of confirmed cases has remained in the four digits for 64 consecutive days since the 7th of last month (1,211 cases). There are concerns that the scale of the outbreak could increase as the spread shows signs of intensifying again in the metropolitan area, coupled with the upcoming Chuseok holiday. Meanwhile, the government is considering a transition to 'gradual daily recovery' around early November, when 70% of the entire population is expected to be fully vaccinated.
