Gwangju Seo-gu Selected for Bandabi Community-Oriented National Sports Center Public Project Competition
Securing 4 Billion Won in National Funding for the Sports Fund
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Dae-seok) announced on the 6th that it has been selected for the 2022 Bandabi Life-Integrated (Disability Type) National Sports Center public contest project promoted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Accordingly, the district will receive 4 billion KRW in national funds (sports fund).
This contest project aims to establish public sports infrastructure that can be conveniently used anytime by both disabled and non-disabled people to revitalize sports for the disabled and improve residents' quality of life.
Seo-gu plans to utilize the site of the current Yangdong Seo-gu Disabled Welfare Center, which has easy access to public transportation such as subway stations and where reconstruction projects are actively underway, to promote construction.
This National Sports Center will be built as a complex facility combining the National Sports Center and Seo-gu Disabled Welfare Center with a total project cost of 8.5 billion KRW, including 4 billion KRW from national funds and 4.5 billion KRW from local and district funds. It will be a 1 basement floor to 3 above-ground floors building with a total floor area of 2,500㎡, serving as infrastructure for disabled welfare.
The completion is targeted for 2024. The center will include an underwater exercise room on the basement floor, and on the ground floors, a fitness room, rehabilitation program rooms, and a rooftop garden will be equipped.
Mayor Seo Dae-seok stated, "With the construction of the Bandabi Sports Center and the combined Disabled Welfare Center facility, we will create infrastructure that improves the quality of life and health of disabled people and enables them to participate in various sports activities."
