Hong Ji's Approval Rating Surges... Rises to 3rd Place Following Lee Jae-myung and Yoon Seok-yeol

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] The trend of Hong Joon-pyo, a member of the People Power Party, rapidly rising in support in the next presidential candidate approval ratings continues.
In a survey released on the 6th by the Korea Society Opinion Institute (KSOI) (conducted nationwide from the 3rd to 4th among 1,003 people aged 18 and over, with a sampling error of ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level), Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung received 28.0%, former Prosecutor General Yoon got 26.4%, and Representative Hong Joon-pyo ranked third with 13.6%. Former party leader Lee Nak-yeon was fourth with 11.7%. This is the first time Hong’s approval rating surpassed that of former leader Lee. In particular, in the suitability survey for conservative presidential candidates, Hong narrowed the gap with former Prosecutor General Yoon to 1.9 percentage points within the margin of error, with Hong at 26.3% and Yoon at 28.2%.
In a Realmeter survey commissioned by YTN’s ‘The News’ released on the same day, President Moon Jae-in’s approval rating for state affairs remained in the 40% range for five consecutive weeks, and the Democratic Party of Korea rose after three weeks. President Moon’s approval rating increased by 0.4 percentage points from the previous week to 41.7%. Negative evaluations fell by 0.2 percentage points to 54.5%, and ‘Don’t know/No response’ decreased by 0.2 percentage points to 3.8% (survey conducted from August 30 to September 3 nationwide among 2,524 people aged 18 and over, with a sampling error of ±2.0 percentage points at a 95% confidence level).
In the same survey, six out of ten citizens supported an early transition to a ‘With Corona’ policy. The response rate for ‘support’ was 58.5%, while ‘oppose’ was 34.3%. ‘Not sure’ accounted for 7.2%. By age group, support was dominant in all age groups except those in their 20s (42.5%).
