Shine Muscat is a promising fruit tree that Gangjin-gun is focusing on cultivating, also known as the "mango grape," and it is popular not only among domestic consumers but also overseas. With this pilot export, Gangjin-grown Shine Muscat has crossed over to Thailand and Vietnam, reaching local dining tables.
The county was selected for the Jeonnam Province's "One City/County One Specialized Crop Development" contest project, encouraging the production of high-quality standardized products that can enhance the competitiveness of local Shine Muscat farmers and gain recognition from consumers.
In particular, considering the area is prone to strong winds, they support windbreak nets to create a safe cultivation environment against disasters, and are fully committed to fostering farmers by promoting expert-invited cultivation technique education and on-site consulting.
By this year, they have secured 7.2 hectares across 22 farms to establish a production base, but due to oversupply caused by a nationwide cultivation boom, there are concerns about price drops, so they have encouraged exports to pioneer new sales channels.
Farmers produce high-quality grapes and consign shipments to "Chambyeolha," a local agricultural product joint sorting export company, aiming to target both export and domestic markets simultaneously. Through close cooperation between the two organizations, they were able to ship 300 kg of Gangjin Shine Muscat grapes for the first time.
County Governor Lee Seung-ok said, "Despite the difficulties in domestic and international economies due to COVID-19 and the challenges in overseas promotion, I consider it meaningful that the export path for Gangjin Shine Muscat has opened," adding, "Let us work together to ensure Gangjin farmers can earn stable incomes through continuous overseas market development."
