Users of the Affordable Transportation Card Saved 14,816 KRW Monthly in the First Half of This Year
Used Mostly by Those Under 20... Increase Also Among 50s and 60s
Public Transportation Fare Discounts Rise in Gyeonggi, Incheon, Seoul, and More
In the first half of this year, people who used the Altteul Transportation Card saved an average of 14,816 KRW per month on public transportation costs.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Metropolitan Area Wide-area Transportation Committee (DAEGANGWI) announced on the 2nd the usage performance of the Altteul Transportation Card project for the first half of this year.
The Altteul Transportation Card is a system that provides mileage proportional to walking and bicycle travel distances when using public transportation, and card companies offer additional discounts to help reduce public transportation costs by up to 30%.
The number of Altteul Transportation Card users increased significantly from 164,000 in December last year to 236,000 in June this year. As of last month, the number exceeded 260,000, showing a continuing upward trend.
Last year, Altteul Transportation Card users saved an average of 12,862 KRW (20.2%) per month on public transportation costs, but in the first half of this year, they saved an average of 14,816 KRW (23.6%), increasing the savings rate. Low-income users saved an average of 15,939 KRW (28.9%) per month.
The age distribution of users showed that those aged 20 and under (49.2%) and those in their 30s (28.3%) accounted for 77.5% of the total. Those in their 50s (8.1%) and 60 and older (3.0%) made up 11.1%, an increase of 1.8 percentage points compared to 9.3% the previous year.
The average monthly usage frequency of the Altteul Transportation Card also increased by 1.1 times to 39 times compared to 37.9 times last year. By region, Seoul (40.7 times), Busan (39.7 times), Incheon (39.3 times), and Gyeonggi area (38.7 times) had the highest usage.
The areas that received the most mileage discounts were Gyeonggi (10,386 KRW), Incheon (9,719 KRW), and Seoul (9,604 KRW), where the burden of public transportation costs is high.

Park Jeong-ho, Head of the Metropolitan Transportation Fare Division at DAEGANGWI, said, "The number of Altteul Transportation Card users and the frequency of public transportation use are both increasing, showing the project's effectiveness," and added, "We will continue to seek improvement plans so that more citizens can use the Altteul Transportation Card."
