Seoul City Announces September Webtoon Contest: 'Animals and Human Stories'
Animal Webtoon Contest Co-hosted with Naver Animal Sympathy Manager Dongrami
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 2nd, Seoul City announced that it will hold the "Animals and People Story" webtoon contest to promote warm stories of coexistence with animals and animal protection culture through webtoons.
The 4th Animal Webtoon Contest, jointly hosted by Seoul City and Donggrami Co., Ltd., the operator of Naver's "Animal Sympathy" board, is open to all interested citizens and is divided into general and junior categories. Applications can be submitted via email to Donggrami until the 30th.
The contest themes include ▲happy stories related to companion animals ▲stories about caring for abandoned animals, and any topic related to "creating a happy world where animals and people coexist." Submissions must be original webtoons not previously published domestically or internationally, accessible to all ages as of the submission date, with a minimum of 15 panels for the general category and 10 panels for the junior category.
For the general category, 20 outstanding works will be selected through the first round of judging by professional judges, then published on Naver's "Animal Sympathy" board for one month in November for a second round of netizen voting, after which the final 4 works will be awarded. The junior category will select the final 4 works through professional judging.
The 4 final winners (teams) in the general category will receive the Seoul Mayor's Award and prize money: Grand Prize (1 winner) 5 million KRW, Excellence Award (1 winner) 3 million KRW, and Merit Award (2 winners) 1 million KRW each. The junior category winners (4 teams) will receive prize money as follows: Grand Prize (1 winner) 500,000 KRW, Excellence Award (1 winner) 300,000 KRW, and Merit Award (2 winners) 100,000 KRW each.

Park Yumi, Director of the Citizen Health Bureau, said, "We hope many citizens participate in the animal webtoon contest to share their interest and experiences regarding animal welfare," and added, "Seoul City will continue to promote various projects that citizens can participate in to spread proper awareness of companion animals."
