Gwangyang City, 2nd POSCO Group Employment Academy Completion Ceremony
12 Graduates Employed, Participating in POSCO Group's Second Half Public Recruitment Exam
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Gwangyang City, Jeollanam-do announced on the 1st that it held the graduation ceremony for the 2nd POSCO Group Employment Academy on August 31st at the Gwangyang City Hall main conference room.
The graduation ceremony was held to celebrate the six months of education and support employment, attended by about 40 people including graduates, Deputy Mayor Kim Kyung-ho, Jin Su-hwa, Chairperson of Gwangyang City Council, Kim Ji-yong, Head of POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks, Lee Baek-gu, Chairman of Gwangyang Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Lee Kwang-yong, Chairman of Gwangyang Steelworks Partner Association.
Among the 30 students selected through a competitive rate of 5.4:1 on February, 12 have successfully secured employment at POSCO, SK Hynix, LG Display, and others.
The unemployed graduates plan to participate in the POSCO Group's second half open recruitment in September and will continue to actively support them even after completing the education.
Kim Ji-yong, Head of Gwangyang Steelworks, said, “It is a great achievement that nearly half of the graduates succeeded in finding jobs thanks to Gwangyang City's active support and the passionate efforts of the graduates,” adding, “We will continue to devote sustained interest and efforts so that the Employment Academy can prosper further.”
Deputy Mayor Kim Kyung-ho said, “I am pleased that the POSCO Group Employment Academy has greatly expanded employment opportunities for local youth in large corporations located in our city,” and added, “We will spare no support for attracting investment and creating jobs, including fostering future new industries, expanding SOC infrastructure, and nurturing young talent.”

Meanwhile, the POSCO Group Employment Academy is a project launched in October 2019 through an agreement with POSCO to support local talent's employment at POSCO Group. Starting with the 1st class last year, it provides customized training on job knowledge, personality, interview skills, and field education necessary for open recruitment targeting youth residing in the region. The 1st class had 22 successful employment cases.
