Minister Lim Hyesook of the Ministry of Science and ICT Discusses Expanding 5G Cooperation with Brazil's Minister of Communications
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The Ministry of Science and ICT announced that Minister Lim Hye-sook held a meeting on the 31st in Seoul with Fabio Salustino Mesquita de Faria, Brazil's Minister of Communications, to discuss cooperation measures in the ICT sector, including 5G networks and the Digital New Deal.
At this meeting, Minister Lim introduced Korea's Digital New Deal policy, the current status and future plans for the 5G+ policy, and the status of the 5G mobile communication frequency auction. In particular, Brazil is promoting the introduction of 5G networks in the country, and the two sides shared policies and know-how regarding infrastructure construction from Korea, a leading 5G country, and exchanged opinions on future cooperation.
Following the meeting, the two ministers revised the Korea-Brazil Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on cooperation in the field of information and communication technology. This MOU, which was first signed in 2015, was revised for the first time, and through this revision, the cooperation areas between the two countries were expanded to include 5G, artificial intelligence, big data, and the Internet of Things (IoT), agreeing to cooperate across the entire Fourth Industrial Revolution sector.
Minister Lim stated on the occasion of today's meeting, "I hope that Brazil will use Korea's experience as a stepping stone to introduce 5G and promote digital transformation," and added, "Korea will also actively cooperate through various activities such as policy sharing and personnel exchanges."
