KCC Obtains International Certification for Weather Resistance Quality of Powder Coatings
Powder Coatings Widely Applied in Various Industrial Equipment Including Construction, Automotive, and Home Appliances
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jonghwa] KCC's powder coatings, Garumel DS 1000 and 2000 series, have obtained certification from Qualicoat, internationally recognizing their excellent weather resistance.
Powder coatings are powder-form coatings first developed domestically by KCC. Unlike conventional coatings, they do not use volatile solvents, reducing risks of poisoning and fire caused by volatile components, and minimizing pollution issues such as air and water contamination. When forming the coating film, wrinkles do not occur nor does it easily run off, and viscosity adjustment is unnecessary, resulting in excellent coating workability. Being in powder form, they are easy to clean, store, and transport, and generate almost no waste, making them economical. Due to these advantages, powder coatings are applied in a wide range of fields including architecture, automotive parts, home appliances, and various industrial equipment.
Qualicoat is an international certification body for the weather resistance of architectural powder coatings, headquartered in Switzerland, Europe, conducting globally recognized Qualicoat certification evaluations. Weather resistance refers to durability against outdoor natural environmental factors such as sunlight, rainfall, temperature, and humidity, which significantly affect product quality and lifespan. Certification is granted based on the degree of gloss retention and color change after a certain period under both artificially simulated outdoor environmental conditions and actual natural conditions.
KCC's powder coatings boasting high weather resistance, the Garumel DS 1000 series and DS 2000 series, have obtained Class 1 and Class 2 certifications respectively. To acquire this certification, the coatings must meet certain standards for gloss retention and color change in accelerated weathering tests that evaluate 1000 hours of weather resistance under artificially simulated conditions including ultraviolet rays, visible light, and rainfall.
Qualicoat certification is used as fundamental data for weather resistance when selecting products, and since the certification and warranty are generally required, products that have obtained certification can secure reliability and sales power. KCC's powder coatings are applied to prominent architectural structures both domestically and internationally.
