Dongdaemun-gu 'Dolbom SOS' Delivers Lunchboxes 5 Times a Week, Responds to Emergency Situations Among Residents
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] “I was shocked to see him collapsed in the bathroom, but I’m really relieved that I was able to immediately call 119 and help rescue him.”
A representative from a public-private partnership company in Dongdaemun-gu, who discovered a resident collapsed while delivering lunchboxes and reported it, recalled the situation at the time.
Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol) Care SOS Center is playing a crucial 119 role for families in crisis, going beyond just providing care services to preventing lonely deaths.
The Care SOS Service is a program that provides necessary services such as temporary home care and meals to residents without family to care for them. Recently, it has been gaining attention for contributing to the prevention of lonely deaths by discovering residents in emergency situations during the care service process and rescuing them.
Mr. A, a middle-aged man who had been receiving meal support services five times a week since last month, was recently able to save his life through the care service.
Mr. A had been working carrying bricks at a construction site but injured his back, which made it difficult for him to move and live independently. When he found it hard even to prepare meals, he urgently requested service from the Care SOS Center. After checking the site, the care manager judged that immediate help was needed and decided to provide lunchbox delivery service five times a week.
While lunchboxes were being delivered to Mr. A, a representative from the public-private partnership company noticed that the lunchbox delivered the previous day was left untouched and suspected something was wrong. Upon checking inside the house, they found Mr. A collapsed in the bathroom. The representative immediately called 119, and Mr. A was safely rescued.
The Dongdaemun-gu Care SOS Center is diversifying customized service types to provide seamless care services, including making care services available to discharged patients.
