Yangcheon-gu 'Omok-ro Street Garden' Creation
New Rock-Garden Created on Omok-ro Median and Green Strip... A Small Attempt to Transform Urban Landscape with Unique Street Garden, Realizing Garden City Yangcheon
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) completed the creation of the distinctive "Omok-ro Street Garden" on the 20th in a 300㎡ space of the central median and strip green area on Omok-ro in front of Omokgyo Station Trapelris.
The "Omok-ro Street Garden" is located on Omok-ro, the main street of Yangcheon-gu, where the landscape is important. However, the existing central median and strip green area, planted with shrubs such as boxwood, suffered from poor growth due to the harsh environment surrounded by roads, greatly damaging the aesthetics.
Accordingly, the district newly created the garden in the form of a rock garden, which is highly resistant to environmental stress.
In addition, 60 trees of three species including Limelight, and 750 ground cover plants of eight species such as Gaura were planted. Ball-shaped landscape stones and gravel mulch materials were introduced to further enhance the garden's distinctive features harmonizing with the surrounding environment.
In particular, the ball-shaped landscape stones were created in various sizes so that pedestrians can enjoy a diverse landscape.
Moreover, moving away from the monotonous green space mainly consisting of shrubs, unique trees such as Limelight and Pink Annabelle were introduced as natural plantings, presenting a new form of street green space.
Meanwhile, Yangcheon-gu is carrying out various street green improvement projects besides the "Omok-ro Street Garden." These include the "Hwagok-ro Street Garden Creation Project" currently in design, the "School Commute Route Greening Project," and the "Child Safety Green Forest Project," aiming to provide residents with a pleasant pedestrian environment by reducing fine dust and preventing traffic accidents.

Kim Soo-young, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, "Although the Omok-ro Street Garden is a small space, it is a representative street of Yangcheon-gu, so we reorganized it into a high-quality street garden considering the importance of the landscape. We will continue to strive to create street landscapes suitable for the 'Park City Yangcheon-gu' in the future."
