[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] A teenage student in his 60s was caught by the police for repeatedly hitting the head of an elderly person in his 60s and forcibly demanding proxy cigarette purchases in a rude manner.
On the 28th, the Gyeonggi Yeoju Police Station announced that they have arrested and are investigating four teenagers, including A (17), on charges of assaulting a woman in her 60s for refusing to comply with their request to buy cigarettes on their behalf.
A and others are accused of repeatedly hitting the head and shoulders of a woman in her 60s, Ms. B, with flowers they were holding on a street in Hongmun-dong, Yeoju City, around 11:30 p.m. on the 25th.
The police reportedly became aware of the crime while investigating A and others who were gathered on the street after receiving a report at 10:55 p.m. on the 27th that "several students were gathered." A police official said, "We are currently clarifying the exact facts with A and others."
Earlier that day, a video showing the crime committed by A and others was uploaded to an online community, sparking outrage among many netizens.
In the video, A, wearing a school uniform, provocatively asked Ms. B, who was sitting on the ground wearing a yellow raincoat, "Where is your boyfriend? Did you break up?" When Ms. B seemed flustered and gently pushed A's hand away, A swore, saying, "Don't touch me, damn it." Then he hit Ms. B's head with the flowers he was holding. He then shouted, "Are you going to buy cigarettes or not? Just say it."
Ms. B, in a trembling voice, pleaded, "Students, stop it," but A showed an even more threatening attitude.
When Ms. B tried to leave, A said, "Don't move your seat." When Ms. B asked, "How old are you? Aren't you a student?" he replied, "Seventeen, seventeen, seventeen," and hit her head again.
The female student filming the video kept laughing throughout, saying, "This is really funny."
Netizens who saw this responded with anger, saying, "I am speechless," "This video will haunt him forever," and "The problem is not only him but also the character of the parents who raised him."
A national petition has emerged demanding punishment for teenagers who repeatedly hit the head of a woman in her 60s and forced her to buy cigarettes on their behalf.
