Dongmyeong University Launches 'Doing University' Revolution... Cultivating 'Practical Talents' Who Find Solutions Despite Difficulties
Invitation from Dean Seo Jong-su: "We Don't Look at Grades, Only the Future" Exciting First Talent Recruitment
Innovative Curriculum Including Financial Statement Preparation, Stock Investment, Classic Reading, and Singing Foreign Songs
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] An innovation with three "no's" (no grade levels - no credits - no one-way teaching) has begun at Dongmyung University.
The college leading university innovation at Dongmyung University is the 'Do-ing' College.
It is an ambitiously newly established college by Dongmyung University to transform university education from 'knowledge delivery' to 'practical and execution (Do-ing) capabilities.'
Dean Seo Jong-su of Do-ing College said, "We plan to implement 'Do-ing education' that cultivates practical talents who can immediately adapt and create solutions regardless of rapidly changing environments or difficult situations."
Dean Seo explained that the direction of Do-ing College is experiential and practical education that instills new motivation and self-esteem even in students who dislike studying, have poor grades, or are only interested in games. They focus only on the student's future instead of report cards.
Evaluation is done by P/NP (Pass/No Pass) instead of A~F grades. Students who diligently participate in a self-directed manner can complete all desired courses within three years.
Graduation requires completing 110 credits from over 70 curricula including reading classical masterpieces, speech, writing, financial statement preparation, stock investment, singing foreign songs, YouTube, hiking, yachting, light aircraft flying, horseback riding, and more.
Dean Seo said, "By instilling basic literacy in reading, speaking, and writing, as well as sportsmanship and virtues, we plan to nurture experts in entrepreneurship, YouTube, and digital performing arts so that graduates can immediately stand out in their respective fields."
At Do-ing College, students are challenged to face adversity with proper character, healthy bodies, and wild thinking, and experience difficult environments that are not easily encountered in daily life.
The mentor faculty of Do-ing College consists of about 30 of the nation's top experts.

The classes are closer to coaching than teaching.
The 'Do-ing education,' introduced for the first time at Dongmyung University in Korea, is already being implemented at 40 small but strong colleges in the United States.
St. John's University is regarded as a utopia for teenagers pursuing intellect. Reading and discussing 100 classical books is the entirety of the four-year curriculum.
