Collaboration with Smart Tourism MICE Research Institute to Build Busan Metaverse Ecosystem
The Dong-Eui University AI Grand ICT Research Center has signed an agreement with Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK regarding AI and the metaverse.

The Artificial Intelligence Grand ICT Research Center and the Smart Tourism MICE Research Institute at Dong-Eui University signed an agreement on the 26th at the Dong-Eui University Industry-Academic Cooperation Building with the Creative AR&VR Hub of Manchester Metropolitan University for technology exchange and human resource development in ICT fields such as artificial intelligence and metaverse.
The signing ceremony was attended by Jeong Seok-chan, director of the Artificial Intelligence Grand ICT Research Center, Yoon Tae-hwan, director of the Smart Tourism MICE Research Institute, and Jeong Hyeong-su, chair professor of Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK.
Each institution will mutually cooperate on technology exchange and research and development related to artificial intelligence and future technologies such as metaverse and AR/VR, human resource development related to artificial intelligence, short- and long-term exchanges of faculty and students for academic activities, and joint hosting of academic conferences and seminars.
The Artificial Intelligence Grand ICT Research Center expects to play a central role in revitalizing Busan’s metaverse ecosystem through cooperation with the Creative AR&VR Hub of Manchester Metropolitan University, which has accumulated world-class technology and experience in the virtual/augmented reality field.
In particular, plans are underway to build a metaverse-based platform to strengthen Busan’s tourism capabilities in collaboration with the Smart Tourism MICE Research Institute.
Jeong Seok-chan, director of the Artificial Intelligence Grand ICT Research Center, said, “Currently, support for metaverse technology development and construction is expanding at the national level, and it is emerging as a new virtual community paradigm in the non-face-to-face era. As Busan is also preparing for the 2030 Busan World Expo, we will lead an innovative and creative future era through technology exchange and research and development based on this agreement.”
Professor Jeong Hyeong-su, director of the Creative AR & VR Hub at Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK, is a world-renowned scholar who ranked second globally in citation index for augmented reality papers over the past five years and first in Trending Authors, indicating the highest growth rate in citations.
He has extensive experience in numerous projects related to smart cities, smart healthcare, smart tourism, and metaverse using augmented reality.
