Establishment of Pukyong National University Industry-Academic Cooperation Research Group, Joint Promotion of National Projects
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Pukyong National University and the Korea Maritime Institute (KMI) have strengthened industry-academia-research cooperation to jointly promote national projects in the marine and fisheries sector.
On the 26th, President Jang Young-su and Director Jang Young-tae signed an agreement at the KMI first-floor conference room to activate industry-academia-research cooperation and collaborate for the development of national and regional marine and fisheries industries.
Through this agreement, the two institutions will first establish the ‘Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Team,’ an industry-academia-research cooperation research group, on the Pukyong National University campus to jointly promote the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries’ ‘Fishing Village New Deal Living Lab Pilot Project,’ thereby strengthening cooperation in the marine and fisheries sector.
Pukyong National University plans to pool the capabilities of the university and research institutions to support solving regional issues in fishing villages. The promotion team was established at the Yongdang Campus, developed as an industry-academia-research innovation campus.
Professors and master's and doctoral personnel will participate to promote joint research, including 4th industrial revolution-related research cooperation in the marine and fisheries sector, venture startups, and new industry content development.
The two institutions agreed to work together on △ joint use of research infrastructure such as facilities and exchange of research information and human resources △ joint execution and mutual support of domestic and international academic events △ fostering future talents and professionals in the marine and fisheries sector △ building and operating industry-academia-research cooperation networks in the marine and fisheries sector △ research and business cooperation for regional industrial development such as marine and fisheries clusters.
President Jang Young-su said, “Pukyong National University, which has researched the marine and fisheries sector for the longest time, and KMI, a national research institute in the marine and fisheries field, are expected to create substantial synergy effects for the development of Korea’s marine and fisheries sector by strengthening cooperation.”
