Garorim Bay Marine Bridge Fails Preliminary Feasibility Study... Chungnam "Shifts Strategy to Presidential Election Pledge"
[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The construction of the Garorim Bay sea bridge failed to pass the Ministry of Economy and Finance's approval. The Garorim Bay sea bridge construction is one of the key projects promoted by Chungnam Province and is expected to be re-pursued through a strategic shift.
According to Chungnam Province on the 27th, the Garorim Bay sea bridge construction project, which extends National Route 38, was rejected in the preliminary feasibility study by the Ministry of Economy and Finance with a cost-benefit ratio of 0.25.
This means the project lacks economic feasibility; typically, a cost-benefit ratio must exceed 1.0 to be recognized as economically viable in such feasibility studies.
In response to this result, the province has revised its strategy to focus administrative efforts on ensuring that the Garorim Bay sea bridge construction is included in the next year's presidential election pledges.
The province aims to have the Garorim Bay sea bridge construction re-pursued even through alternative routes, judging that the construction is essential to complete a new tourism belt in the West Coast area, including the Garorim Bay Marine Garden.
Yang Seung-jo, Governor of Chungnam Province, stated, “We will strive to have the Garorim Bay sea bridge project, a core project of the province, reflected in next year’s presidential election pledges,” and added, “Along with this, we will request the government to include this project as an exemption from the preliminary feasibility study.”
Meanwhile, the Garorim Bay sea bridge primarily connects a 5.6 km section from Dokgot-ri, Daesan-eup, Seosan, the starting point of National Route 38, to Naeri, Iwon-myeon, Taean County.

Currently, it takes 1 hour and 50 minutes to travel from Mandae Port in Taean to Dokgot-ri in Seosan. However, once a four-lane (2.5 km) sea bridge crossing Garorim Bay is constructed, this section will be traversable in about 3 minutes.
