Yeonggwang-gun Decides to Cancel This Year's 'e-Mobility Expo'
Considering the Serious COVID-19 Situation... "We Will Prepare Next Year's Expo Thoroughly"
[Yeonggwang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jeonseong] This year's Yeonggwang e-Mobility Expo has been canceled due to concerns over the resurgence of COVID-19.
Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim Junsung) announced on the 26th that the '2021 Yeonggwang e-Mobility Expo' scheduled for October will be canceled after deliberation by the Expo Steering Committee due to the resurgence of COVID-19.
Considering the revitalization of the local economy, the status as a leading city in e-mobility, and the continuity of the expo, options such as holding it online were also considered, but it was judged to be impractical, and the decision was made to cancel in order to minimize damage to participating companies and organizations.
This year's Yeonggwang e-Mobility Expo was scheduled to be held for five days from October 13 to 17 at Yeonggwang Sportium.
However, the county judged that it would be difficult to hold the event amid the recent large-scale occurrence of COVID-19 infections and growing concerns about quarantine due to the spread of variant viruses.
In the case of the e-Mobility Expo, the participation rate of out-of-town visitors is high, and many buyers from other regions enter the exhibition booths, raising concerns about infection due to close contact.
The Yeonggwang e-Mobility Expo attracted about 125,000 visitors in 2019, achieving significant results such as on-site sales of 8.5 billion KRW and export contracts worth 49 million USD.
This year, various side events such as the Black Eagles Air Show and the Jeonnam Intellectual Property Festival were planned, raising expectations for a successful expo, making the cancellation a considerable disappointment.
Kim Junsung, Governor of Yeonggwang-gun, said, "Since the health and safety of the residents are the top priority, we have inevitably canceled the expo, which attracts many visitors," and added, "Starting this October, we will diligently prepare new programs with related organizations and groups to hold a substantial expo next year."
