Naju Geumcheon Nonghyup Sanji Distribution Center Renovation Completed
[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] The Naju Geumcheon Nonghyup Agricultural Product Distribution Center (APC), responsible for the high quality, sorting, distribution, and storage of the world-renowned luxury fruit "Naju Pear," has completed renovations and opened its doors.
Naju City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Kang In-gyu) announced on the 26th that it held a completion ceremony at the newly constructed Geumcheon Nonghyup APC site with officials from the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation, hoping for a new leap forward for Naju Pear.
The newly built Geumcheon Nonghyup APC was constructed on a 12,283㎡ (approximately 3,715 pyeong) site next to the Geumcheon Nonghyup nursery (2156 Godong-ri), with a total floor area of 3,924㎡, focusing on improving the aging building, sorting machines, and distribution facilities.
New sorting, distribution, and storage facilities have been established, including a cold storage warehouse of about 160 pyeong capable of storing up to 1,500 tons of pears, loading and unloading areas, offices, two pre-tray type sorting machines, two refrigerated trucks, three forklifts, and 1,000 pallets and transport boxes each.
The construction project was funded with a total of 4.9 billion KRW, including 1.47 billion KRW in national funds secured through the 2021 national agricultural product distribution facility contest led by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, 440 million KRW in provincial funds, 1.03 billion KRW in city funds, and 1.96 billion KRW in Nonghyup self-funding.
About 30 officials attended the completion ceremony, including Kang In-gyu, Mayor of Naju City; Kim Young-deok, Chairman of the City Council; Lee Min-jun, Provincial Assembly member; Park Seo-hong, Head of Jeonnam Regional Headquarters of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation; Park Nae-chun, Head of Naju City Branch; Park Young-woong, CEO of Naju City Cooperative Joint Business Corporation; and Park Ha-sik, Chairman of Geumcheon Nonghyup.
The ceremony proceeded with a construction progress report, presentation of plaques of appreciation, congratulatory speeches from guests, and a ribbon-cutting. Plaques of appreciation were awarded to the designers, supervisors, and construction company officials.
Mayor Kang In-gyu of Naju City said, "I hope the newly opened Geumcheon Nonghyup APC will serve as a catalyst to improve market conditions and establish a supply and demand control system, thereby enhancing the quality competitiveness of Naju Pear." He added, "We will strive to improve agricultural product quality and provide various marketing supports to achieve management stability and income increase for farmers."
