Pearl Abyss Unveils New Game 'DokeV' at Gamescom Opening Event
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] On the 26th (local time on the 25th), Pearl Abyss unveiled gameplay footage of its new title DokeV at the opening ceremony of Europe’s largest game festival, Gamescom 2021, held in Germany.
DokeV is a creature-collecting open world action-adventure game that unfolds the protagonist’s journey to find dokkaebi through a unique worldview.
The game’s name, derived from pure Korean, its new genre, and Pearl Abyss’s distinctive personality make it a global challenge project. It is being developed for console and PC platforms so that families can enjoy it together. The dazzling open world, which transcends reality and virtual space, is realized using Pearl Abyss’s next-generation proprietary game engine.
The development is led by Executive Producer (PD) Kim Dae-il and Lead PD Kim Sang-young, who oversees Pearl Abyss’s animation and motion capture. Game designer Nam Chang-gi, who was responsible for the action design of the Black Desert IP, has also joined the development team.
The newly released DokeV trailer features the protagonist exploring the open world alongside unique dokkaebi. It showcases excellent action and high freedom with a real-time based combat system and dynamic battles against boss monsters.
The impactful combat action is also humorously reinterpreted, depicting the protagonist and dokkaebi comically fighting against android robots. Additionally, the remix version of the K-pop song “ROCKSTAR,” traditional Korean elements such as hanok buildings and haetae statues harmonize to attract attention.
Pearl Abyss is currently in the final stages of development aiming for release next year. It is expected that DokeV will help the company overcome the “one-game risk” that has been pointed out as a weakness of Pearl Abyss. Currently, 80% of Pearl Abyss’s revenue comes from the Black Desert IP.
