WHO "Delta Variant Reported in 163 Countries... COVID-19 Spread Stabilizing"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyemin] The World Health Organization (WHO) evaluated on the 25th (local time) that the spread of COVID-19 has recently shown signs of stabilization.
In its weekly epidemiological report, WHO stated that the number of new confirmed cases reported from the 16th to the 22nd was about 4.5 million, similar to the previous week, indicating that the nearly two-month increase since mid-June is stabilizing.
By region, the Western Pacific and the Americas saw new confirmed cases increase by 20% and 8%, respectively, but other regions reported similar or decreased numbers compared to the previous week. New deaths were about 68,000, a 1% increase from the previous week.
WHO also reported that the Delta variant has been detected in 163 countries to date, an increase of 7 countries compared to the previous week.

The Alpha variant, designated as a 'variant of concern' along with Delta, has been reported in 192 countries, and the Beta variant in 141 countries, increasing by 3 and 4 countries respectively compared to the previous week. The Beta variant remains reported in 86 countries, the same as the previous week.
