50s Son Assaults 70s Mother After Being Told to Stop Drinking
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] A man in his 50s was arrested by the police for assaulting his mother in her 70s after she told him to stop drinking alcohol.
Seoul Gwanak Police Station announced on the 25th that they have booked and are investigating a man in his 50s, Mr. A, on charges of assaulting a family member, special intimidation, and attempted arson of a dwelling.
According to the police, Mr. A is suspected of assaulting his mother in her 70s at a multi-family house in Sillim-dong, Gwanak-gu, where he resides, around 7 p.m. the previous day.
Police officers who responded to a report from a neighbor confronted Mr. A, who was threatening to pour gasoline inside the house and set it on fire without opening the door.
Eventually, Mr. A opened the door himself around 7:30 p.m. and was arrested in the act.
During the police investigation, Mr. A reportedly stated that he assaulted his mother after she told him to stop drinking.
The victim, the mother, was transported to a hospital and received treatment but was not seriously injured.

A police official said, "Mr. A has been detained in a holding cell, and we are investigating the details of the incident," adding, "We plan to request an arrest warrant."
