DL E&C Signs MOU with Korea Rail Network Authority to Establish Smart Safety Platform
[Asia Economy Reporter Onyu Lim] DL E&C (formerly Daelim Industrial) is partnering with the Korea Rail Network Authority to establish a smart safety management system in the Seoul metropolitan area.
On the 25th, DL E&C announced that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the Korea Rail Network Authority's Seoul Metropolitan Headquarters in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, to build a "smart safety management system suitable for deep tunnels."
Through this MOU, both parties will integrate advanced Internet of Things (IoT) and other smart technologies to develop a safety system tailored to the railway construction site environment. In particular, they plan to lead the prevention of major accidents by establishing a smart safety management system specialized for the GTX deep tunnel construction currently underway in the metropolitan area.
DL E&C is the main contractor for the deep tunnel metropolitan wide-area express railway GTX-A project. The company plans to introduce various smart safety technologies it possesses to the GTX-A site. To manage worker access, a facial recognition access control system will be implemented to ensure strict security and real-time personnel status management. It can also detect workers' body temperature and whether they are wearing safety helmets. Intelligent CCTV capable of recognizing accident situations autonomously will be installed inside the tunnel. The intelligent CCTV will automatically count the number of workers and detect abnormal behavior or fire/smoke, sending emergency alarms through the system.
IoT technology will also be introduced to prevent suffocation accidents that may occur in the confined tunnel construction and to enable rapid rescue in case of accidents. A monitoring system that measures harmful gas concentrations in real time will be installed inside the tunnel. Workers can frequently check the harmful gas levels, and warning alarms will sound if dangerous thresholds are exceeded to prevent suffocation accidents. Additionally, beacons that allow tracking of workers' location and status will be provided to tunnel workers. Wearing these beacons enables real-time tracking of workers' positions and detects falls or collapses, allowing for prompt rescue operations in case of accidents. Workers can also use an emergency call function in urgent situations.
Furthermore, DL E&C and the Korea Rail Network Authority plan to build a real-time integrated control system that allows monitoring of all the smart safety systems at a glance. The GTX-A project control room will be able to monitor the real-time safety status of all construction sections. In addition, in case of emergencies, the system will be linked to mobile devices including smartphones so that both site managers and workers can take immediate action.
