[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Cargo Truck Mutual Aid Association, which has 188,000 cargo trucks nationwide as members, has joined the committee that mediates compensation claims disputes related to commuting industrial accidents. With the Cargo Truck Mutual Aid Association joining, it is expected that lawsuits over compensation claims arising between industrial accident insurance and automobile insurance can be reduced by more than 40%.
The Korea Workers' Compensation and Welfare Service announced on the 25th that from this month, the Cargo Truck Mutual Aid Association will participate as a member company in the compensation claims negotiation and mediation committee under the Industrial Accident Compensation Insurance Act.
The committee is a compensation claims negotiation and mediation body operated by the Service since May 2018 to promptly resolve the increasing compensation claims cases caused by traffic accidents during commuting or travel through consultation and mediation with insurance companies and others. The committee currently includes 15 member companies, including the Service, 11 domestic automobile insurance companies, and 3 automobile mutual aid associations, and now the Cargo Truck Mutual Aid Association has joined.
The Service expects that with the participation of the Cargo Truck Mutual Aid Association, lawsuits over compensation claims can be reduced by more than 40%. In the third year since its establishment, last year, the committee increased pre-litigation settlements by 14% and settlement amounts by 81% compared to 2017 before its establishment, while reducing lawsuits by 25.8%. With the Cargo Truck Mutual Aid Association joining, it is anticipated that cases resolved through settlement will further increase.
Additionally, the Cargo Truck Mutual Aid Association, together with the Service, has agreed to strengthen headquarters' support for regional negotiation and mediation, actively share data, enhance the objectivity and rationality of compensation claims, and promote the activation of settlement mediation.
