NH Investment & Securities Hosts Big Data Competition 'Data Becomes Culture'
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] NH Investment & Securities announced on the 24th that it will hold the 2021 Big Data Competition titled ‘Data Becomes Culture’ to discover innovative ideas and secure digital talents early among domestic and international university (graduate) students.
Now in its second year, ‘Data Becomes Culture’ is a big data competition based on financial data that attracted over 1,200 participants in its inaugural event in 2020. Any domestic or international undergraduate or graduate student can participate, either individually or in teams of up to three members, by applying through the NH Investment & Securities website or the QV/NAMUH mobile trading system (MTS).
This year’s competition theme is ‘Predicting Stock Holding Periods through Data Integration and Proposing Service Ideas.’ The preliminary round involves developing algorithms to predict stock holding periods using data such as customer characteristics and trading patterns. The semifinals and finals will evaluate AI/big data-based service idea proposals, including the prediction algorithms.
Among the teams submitting preliminary results, 50 teams will be selected by lottery to receive prizes for all team members, and all members of teams passing the preliminary round will be granted investment support funds for stock investment experience.
The preliminary round requires submission of analysis materials by October 12, using financial practical data released on the 30th. From the 50 teams passing the preliminary round, 16 teams will be selected through the semifinal evaluation, and the final ranking will be determined on November 26 through the final round involving the top six teams. The total prize money amounts to 50 million KRW, with 10 million KRW awarded to the grand prize team, 5 million KRW each to two excellence award teams, 3 million KRW each to three encouragement award teams, and 1 million KRW each to ten honorable mention teams.
Additionally, teams winning the grand prize, excellence award, or encouragement award will be exempt from the document screening process when applying for employment at NH Investment & Securities in 2022, and grand prize and excellence award winners will also be offered experiential internship opportunities.
