New Young Talent Hackathon Established This Year for Staff and Senior Levels
LG Chem employees are holding a performance sharing meeting through the metaverse platform Virbela.
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] LG Chem announced on the 24th that it held an internal contest to reflect the ideas of young employees in the company's management. Under the name "Young Talent Hackathon," young employees at the staff and senior staff levels participated and competed, with plans to incorporate the winning ideas into actual business operations.
At the event held the previous day using a metaverse platform, five teams presented their ideas. These teams were selected through a 3.5 to 1 competition ratio in an internal contest held in April. Each team presented on topics including a plastic recycling business using blockchain, a circular economy construction system, eco-friendly product sales, a system for securing recycled raw materials, and an internal information-sharing platform.
The team that proposed an eco-friendly product sales method with a story and rewards conducted their own research and confirmed that the main reasons for not purchasing eco-friendly products were lack of interest and high prices. They proposed a platform with an appropriate reward system to encourage the purchase of eco-friendly products. For example, when consumers buy eco-friendly products, the service visualizes ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) scores and plants actual trees.

The company plans to offer the best idea proposal team an opportunity for CEO mentoring and, if necessary, nurture them as an internal startup to support actual commercialization. Shin Hak-cheol, Vice Chairman of LG Chem, said, "The MZ generation, which accounts for 55% of all employees, is a valuable human resource that will emerge as the core of the company in the future," adding, "We will actively reflect their creative ideas in business and management strategies."
