The Cheongju District Court (Judge Lee Hyung-geol, in charge of warrants) conducted a pre-arrest interrogation on the afternoon of the 23rd for the mother, Ms. A, and issued an arrest warrant on charges of attempted infanticide.
After the warrant hearing, Ms. A remained silent in response to reporters' questions such as "Why did you abandon the child?" and "When did the crime occur?" and was escorted into a police transport vehicle.
The baby was discovered by firefighters who responded to a passerby's report around 3 a.m. on the 21st, stating that "a cat's meowing sound was heard from inside a restaurant's food waste bin." The baby, found naked with the umbilical cord still attached, had wounds on the face and neck and was in critical condition with symptoms of sepsis. The infant is currently receiving treatment at Chungbuk National University Hospital.
