As of 6 PM, 1,171 COVID-19 Cases Confirmed Nationwide... 13 Fewer Than Yesterday
Four-Digit Daily COVID-19 Cases Continue for 49 Consecutive Days as of the 24th
[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] As the fourth wave of COVID-19 continues, the daily number of confirmed cases in the four digits has been ongoing.
According to the quarantine authorities, Seoul city, and other local governments, from 12 a.m. to 6 p.m. on this day, a total of 1,171 new COVID-19 cases were reported. This is 13 fewer than the 1,184 cases reported during the same time the previous day. However, it is 17 more than the 1,154 cases reported a week ago on the 16th.
The daily number of confirmed cases has remained in the four digits for 48 consecutive days since the 7th of last month. The 24th will mark the 49th day. The number of new cases over the past week from the 17th to this day was 1,372 → 1,804 → 2,152 → 2,050 → 1,880 → 1,628 → 1,418.
Since there is still time until midnight when the count is finalized, the number of new cases at 12 a.m. on the 24th is expected to increase to the 1,400s, possibly around 1,500. The previous day, after 6 p.m., 234 more cases were added, closing at a final count of 1,418.
Although the number of confirmed cases has slightly decreased in recent days, it is still difficult to say that the spread has been curbed. The decrease in testing over weekends and holidays continued into the early part of the week, followed by an increase starting Wednesday. On this day, the number of tests may have further decreased due to the northward approach of Typhoon No. 12 "Omais."
By region, 797 cases (68.1%) occurred in the metropolitan area, and 374 cases (31.9%) in non-metropolitan areas. The fourth wave, which began in earnest centered around the metropolitan area in early last month, is recently spreading to various non-metropolitan regions. By city and province, the cases are as follows: Gyeonggi 377, Seoul 363, Daegu 65, Gyeongnam 59, Incheon 57, Busan 51, Daejeon 44, Chungnam 43, Gyeongbuk 31, Jeju 26, Gangwon 15, Chungbuk 13, Jeonbuk 11, Gwangju 6, Jeonnam 5, Ulsan 3, Sejong 2.
