Gwangju Buk-gu to Create Single-Use Item-Free Public Offices Starting Next Month
Spread of 'Carbon Neutral Lifestyle' Culture
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Moon In) announced on the 23rd that starting next month, it will embark on creating a ‘Disposable-Free Public Office’ to spread the culture of ‘Carbon Neutral Lifestyle.’
Carbon neutrality means balancing greenhouse gas emissions with absorption. It refers to achieving a net zero carbon dioxide emission, also called net zero or carbon zero.
Last December, the government announced the ‘2050 Carbon Neutral Vision,’ which includes expanding electricity and hydrogen production and utilization based on renewable energy, improving energy efficiency, and promoting the commercialization of decarbonization future technologies.
Accordingly, Buk-gu decided to practice reducing the use of disposable products to decrease waste and promote resource circulation.
First, on the morning of the 1st of next month, a campaign encouraging the use of personal tumblers will be held at the Buk-gu Office plaza together with the district council to induce employee participation.
Also, when holding various meetings and events, efforts will be made to reduce disposable waste within the office by lending reusable items such as cups, plates, and forks through the ‘Reusable Items Sharing Project.’
In particular, last month, dish sterilizers and dryers were installed in all departments, including the Administrative Welfare Center, to promote the use of mugs and tumblers.
District Mayor Moon In said, “As this is an important time for practice and solidarity to move toward a carbon-neutral and circular economy society, we ask residents to actively refrain from using disposable products and to practice recycling.”
