Large Print Books · Small Libraries Sejong Books · Excellent Magazines, etc.
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] On the 23rd, Jeonnam Gwangyang City Library announced that it has been consecutively selected for grant projects that provide books in kind from organizations collaborating with central government-affiliated institutions or the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
According to the Gwangyang City Library recently, four municipal libraries including the Central Library, Jungma, Hope, and Yonggang Libraries were selected as distribution institutions for the "Large Print Book Distribution Support Project," hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korea Library Association.
As a result, each library received support for 24 types of large print books, completed catalog registration and book maintenance work, and after providing book guidance using book curation and a period of exhibition, began offering lending services to users from August 23.
The "Large Print Book Distribution Support Project" is a project by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Library Association to produce and distribute large print books to public libraries so that elderly people who have difficulty reading and low vision users can comfortably engage in reading activities.
The Central Library secured the "2021 Sejong Book Selection Support Project," hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korea Publication Industry Promotion Agency, to support books in the general knowledge category for eight small and village libraries operated by Gwangyang City.
The books will be distributed in two phases: the first phase in August will provide 60 books per location, totaling 480 books (worth about 8 million KRW), and the second phase will distribute a similar amount in December.
Upon receiving the books this month, the Central Library plans to complete catalog registration and place them in small libraries to provide reading and lending services, and continue book management guidance using circulating librarians.
Meanwhile, in April, the Central Library and Hope Library were selected as participating institutions in the "2021 Excellent Content Magazine Development and Distribution Support Project," hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korea Magazine Association, and will receive monthly distributions of quality magazines.
The magazines total 51 titles (40 monthly, 5 bimonthly, 6 quarterly), with 450 copies distributed annually, covering diverse fields such as ▲Tea and Culture ▲Munhakdongne ▲Art and Criticism ▲Literature and Society ▲Deco Journal ▲Golf Herald, among others.
Ko Geun-seong, Director of Library Operations, said, "Securing grant projects that provide in-kind support is as important as improving library facilities or operating excellent programs supported by the government."
