Kenkoa Signs MOU with UK Sky Sports to Promote Jeju Cargo Drone and Air Taxi Infrastructure Projects
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Kenko Aerospace announced on the 23rd that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Skyports, a global leading company in Urban Air Mobility (UAM) infrastructure and drone delivery, to cooperate on the development of air taxi infrastructure and drone delivery business in the Jeju Island region.
Through this agreement, Kenko plans to develop air taxi infrastructure in the Jeju Island region simultaneously with the commercial launch of cargo drones in the Jeju island areas together with Skyports. The commercial launch of cargo drones promoted by the two companies is evaluated as a project that can establish cargo drone airports (Vertiports), accumulate eVTOL operation data, and secure leading infrastructure for future commercial air taxi operations.
Skyports is a specialized company in infrastructure enabling air taxi operations and cargo drone delivery in the global UAM market. In 2019, it created the world's first pilot urban airport for air taxis in downtown Singapore, and is developing infrastructure projects not only in the US and Asia but also in Europe and the Middle East. Additionally, its drone delivery business is currently conducting medical deliveries such as COVID-19 vaccines and postal deliveries to island regions within the UK.
To practically promote this project, Kenko has already established a drone operation division in Jeju and increased related personnel. Furthermore, it is rapidly progressing tasks with relevant Jeju institutions for the commercialization of cargo drone business and the construction of air taxi infrastructure.
