Gyeonggi-do Conducts 'Employment Practice Audit' at 20 Public Institutions... Until September 30
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will conduct a regular audit on the hiring practices of 20 public institutions within the province.
Gyeonggi Province announced that from the 23rd of this month until the 30th of next month, it will carry out a regular audit on the hiring practices of public institutions under the province.
This audit is part of the nationwide comprehensive survey on hiring practices of public institutions, which the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission conducts annually in cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and local governments nationwide.
The audit targets 20 institutions out of 26 public institutions under the province, including Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Development Corporation (GH), Gyeonggi Pyeongtaek Port Corporation, Gyeonggi Tourism Organization, Gyeonggi Job Foundation, and Gyeonggi Market and Commercial Promotion Agency.
Excluded are six institutions such as Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation, which was established last December and has been operating for less than a year; Korea Gyeonggi Corporation (with less than 20% provincial investment shares); KINTEX (audited directly by Goyang City); Gyeonggi Technopark (audited directly by Ansan City); Gyeonggi Social Service Institute (audited directly by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission); and Gyeonggi Medical Center (only the compliance with hiring agreements will be audited).
The province will check whether there were any illegal or unfair acts during new hiring and conversion to regular positions since December 2019, and will also investigate allegations of hiring corruption raised through reports or the media.
The audit will primarily be conducted through document review to prevent the spread of COVID-19, with on-site inspections conducted if necessary. The audit results will be submitted to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety by the end of October.

A provincial official explained, "This audit is part of the '2020 Local Public Institutions Hiring Practices Regular Comprehensive Survey,' for which the Ministry of the Interior and Safety sent an official letter requesting cooperation at the end of July. It is not a special audit as a follow-up measure related to recent personnel controversies surrounding Governor Lee Jae-myung at provincial institutions."
