Moon Jae-in's Approval Rating Slightly Declines, Stays in Low 40% Range for 3 Consecutive Weeks [Realmeter]
Party Support: People Power Party 37.1% vs Democratic Party 32.8%
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] A public opinion poll revealed that President Moon Jae-in's approval rating for his administration has shown a slight decline, maintaining the low 40% range for three consecutive weeks.
According to the August third-week survey conducted by Realmeter on behalf of YTN from the 17th to the 20th, targeting 2,013 voters aged 18 and older nationwide, President Moon's approval rating dropped by 0.4 percentage points from the previous week to 41.6% (21.6% strongly approve, 20.0% somewhat approve). This marks the third consecutive week in the low 40% range, following 41.5% in the first week and 42.0% in the second week of August.
During the same period, negative evaluations rose by 1.1 percentage points to 55.7% (15.1% somewhat disapprove, 40.5% strongly disapprove), while 'don't know/no response' decreased by 0.5 percentage points to 2.8%. The gap between positive and negative evaluations stood at 14.1 percentage points, which is outside the margin of error.
Looking at daily trends, negative evaluations were somewhat higher in the early part of the week due to the ruling party's forced passage of the Media Arbitration Act amendment and the rising number of COVID-19 cases. However, remarks about vaccine budget allocation later in the week appeared to reduce the decline.
Party support showed a slight decline, with both the Democratic Party of Korea and the People Power Party dropping by 0.7 and 0.2 percentage points respectively compared to the previous week. Support for the People Power Party was 37.1%, while the Democratic Party of Korea stood at 32.8%, with a gap of 4.3 percentage points, marking the second consecutive week within the margin of error.
Other parties were recorded as follows: Open Democratic Party 7.1%, People's Party 6.2%, Justice Party 3.4%, Basic Income Party 0.6%, Transition Korea 0.5%, other parties 1.3%, and non-affiliated voters 11.2%.
